In my view, people are motivated to work hard by their needs. According to Maslow, humans derive their motivation from the desire to satisfy five basic needs arranged in a hierarchy (Hughes et al., 2019). He suggests that people want to satisfy the bottommost level before satisfying higher-level needs. The needs are arranged below from the lowermost to the highest level. 1. Physiological Needs 2. Security Needs 3. “Belongingness” Needs 4. Esteem Needs 5. Self-Actualization Needs Individuals starting their careers will be highly motivated to work hard for physiological needs like receiving a stable income and adequate wages.
